For many, the thought of sleeping in a den of dust mites and germs is enough to cause waking nightmares. However, for more people than we like to think, this is likely a reality. According to a study over 70% of mattresses are contaminated with allergy-inducing dust mites. Still, we all dread the idea of buying a new mattress every eight years, as merchandisers suggest we do.
When cleaning your mattresses, we leave them not only clean and fresh but allergy free as well. Mattresses should be cleaned at least once every six months by a professional cleaner.
McArdles mattress cleaning packages are available in Central West, Orange, Molong, Bathurst, Kelso, Oberon, Lithgow, Blayney, Cudal, Canowindra, Cowra, Forbes, Parkes, Wellington, Dubbo, Mid-West Regional, Weddin areas.
A neutralising spray can also be used to reduce any allergen irritants between your regular cleaning. McArdles technicians are equipped with the latest professional machinery on the market. We use a powerful hot water extraction system, which simultaneously cleans and dries the material of your mattress. We work with only with fully trained and qualified mattress steam cleaner technicians, who also will be able to give advice and recommend the appropriate treatment for diverse types of spillage and stains.
Around a third of our lives is spent on pillows and mattresses, but mattress cleaning is often neglected. Mattresses can cost anything from $50 to $10,000, but they all need looking after, as well as professional cleaning every six months.
Mattress contamination can include dust mites and their faeces, sweat stains, body oils, dead skin, etc. A dust mite is generally invisible to the naked eye thanks to its 0.5mm size – more than 7,000 could fit on one fingernail. During their lives, dust mites moult several times and lay 300 eggs. They produce up to 100 faecal pellets a day, resulting in a total waste production of 200 times their own weight. Mite droppings are slimy, but when mixed with other substances will form household dust.
Allergies caused by dust mite faeces are a major problem and seems to be increasing. Further it has been known for some time they can cause serious health issues. Among these are rhinitis, or inflammation of the nose and eyes, as well as conditions such as eczema and asthma. These are caused by immune system responses, and around 40% of the population are affected at some point, a number that is rising.
The microscopic house dust mite, which lives indoors, can be controlled in order to help fight against allergens. Because we spend so much of our lives in bed, and also dress or prepare for the day in our bedrooms, these rooms are especially problematic for those suffering from allergies. The skin scales we shed into our carpets, mattresses, pillows and linen are eaten by dust mites. As a result, the mites can easily breed in these places.
Cleaning For the Protection of Allergy Sufferers
Over 5 million Australians suffer from allergies. Many of these households have never had their home furnishings cleaned.
MasterBlend now has a system of cleaning for the protection of allergy sufferers. This family of hypo-allergenic product is designed to service homes of people who have allergies or may be sensitive to harsh chemicals. The ResponsibleCare™ family of products do not contain hazardous materials but are derived from renewable fruit and vegetable seeds.
The number one indoor allergen is faecal matter created by the common house dust mite. Dust mites feed off our shed skin. They are arachnids, not insects, so are related to spiders. They are eight-legged creatures, 3 microns in size and invisible to the human eye.
Dust mites are found in virtually all homes, no matter how clean. The primary source of dust mite exposure is in the bedroom. As we spend 1/3 of our life in bed, most of our shed skin is there providing food and warm humid environment for their growth. This is why mattress cleaning is so important.
Regular cleaning and treatment of mattresses, upholstery and bedroom carpet has given relief to these sufferers, Cleaning of these surfaces should be followed with a treatment of Dust Mite Anti-Allergen to control allergens between regular cleaning. This product is not a pesticide but neutralises the protein found in dust mite faeces that acts as a trigger for allergies.
Because allergy sufferers may be sensitive to solvents, perfumes or other hazardous materials, MasterBlend has developed Anti-Allergen, Hypo-Allergenic PreSpray for carpets, upholstery and mattresses. The final removal of soil and allergens is accomplished with Anti-Allergen Hypo-Allergenic Rinse.
When deodorisation is needed, use Anti-Allergen Deodoriser. It does not contain perfumes, solvents or pesticides but uses an oxidising agent to the source of the odour.
This family of products also has two items available to treat a home owner’s air handling system. Anti-Allergen Duct Wash is a final treatment after professional ductwork cleaning which leaves a non-pesticide to control allergens. Anti-Allergen Filter Enhancer is a consumer treatment for new fitters which aids in trapping allergens but does not affect the air flow through the system. The professional cleaner will sell the products to the home owner.
The ResponsibleCare™ family of products fills a need that allows the professional cleaner to perform valuable services for the allergy sufferer and individuals who are sensitive to harsh chemicals.
ResposibleCare™ products are tested and proven to be environmentally safe for humans, pets, and plants.

If you suffer from allergies, you are not alone! All across the New South Wales and Australia millions of people suffer with allergy and asthma symptoms every day. Why do so many people suffer from allergies? One major contributor to allergy symptoms is dust mites. This is a pet allergen that is ubiquitous to homes with pets. This common allergen causes negative reactions in most people. Allergy symptoms range from inconvenient to life-threatening, and they all detract from the quality of the sufferer’s life. Professional allergy cleaning can rid your home of dust mites.
You may find it hard to believe there are dust mites in your home since you cannot see them, but the fact of the matter is, dust mites are microscopic and they are everywhere. These tiny arthropods are so small that seven-thousand of them could fit on your little fingernail! The dust mites themselves do not cause allergy symptoms, but their microscopic droppings do! Dust mites live a very short time, but in that time they produce two hundred times their tiny body weight in highly allergenic droppings.
Homes with pets are rife with dust mites, and many Australians report having pet allergies. Even without pets, your home will have dust mites. They gather in soft fabrics, upholstery and especially in mattresses. In fact, about sixty percent of the dust mites to be found in a home are in the mattresses. The fact that we spend eight hours of every day in bed means we have plenty of opportunity for dust mite exposure.
Continued exposure to dust mites can cause a great deal of distress for people who already suffer from other types of allergies or respiratory illnesses. People who live with dust mites can expect to suffer from shortness of breath, coughing, sneezing, wheezing, hives and itchy eyes.
No matter how clean your home may be, skilled professional allergy cleaning will help you get your dust mite problem under control. Read on to learn how you can enjoy guaranteed, lasting relief from allergy symptoms.

When you call for an upholstery related quote it’s important for us to understand the requirements. Some aspects we need to know before giving a quote include:
- Seating capacity – for example, lounge suites with a 3-seater and 2 recliners is considered as 5 seats.
- Seating area – some seats are larger or longer. Cushions and armrests also have to be included.
- Extent of soiling – the more soiled it is, the longer it takes to clean it.
- Fabric type – a wide variety of fabrics are used as upholstery material. It is easy to clean some of them, but some other have to be carefully handled. We cannot do aggressive cleaning with some delicate fabrics such as Indian cotton. It takes longer to clean such fabric. It also takes longer to clean fabrics that are not colour-fast.
Our IICRC certified technicians will ask you all these questions in order to best determine the scope of work and then give an indicative price to you. Based on the information you provide, they will also be able to determine as to how long it takes to clean the upholstery.
It is also important to carry out a visual inspection prior to giving a quote because answers to some questions can be obtained only through a visual inspection. You can take a look at our pricing page. An estimate can be given over telephone on the basis of the information you provide and the visual inspection. However, time needed to clean is also an important factor. This is because some 5-seater lounges may take only 1.5 hours to clean, but some others can take 3 to 4 hours to clean.
Some upholstery cleaners may give you a quote over phone within 15 seconds, but then you must find out as to what you actually get for the money you spend.
Mattress Cleaning Process
Our technician will assess each mattress to determine the best cleaning method. We will always point out any potential permanent stains or areas of concerns.
Intensive Dry Vacuuming
Vacuuming is an essential step. A hospital-grade SEBO, HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration vacuum cleaner with a rotary brush head will be used to eliminate high percentages of the loose soil and debris in the top and bottom fibres of the mattress. Our state of the art vacuum cleaners are highly efficient, they don’t lose suction, so they remove more dirt, dust and pet hair from your environment. Dry vacuuming will remove more than 70% of dry soil.
Pre-treatment and spotting
A unique solution designed for your material type and the soiling condition will be applied to emulsify the soiling. We use a hot detergent, and immediately it starts working to break down sweat and soil. Any potential tricky spots will be pre-treated to increase chances of removal.
The mattress will be agitated using a brush or pad. This helps to loosen the soil and break down fats and oils.
Soil Extraction and Rise
Our state of the art equipment is used to provide a prominent level of heat and cleaning power. The mattress is rinsed softly and then extracted using a powerful vacuum. Our equipment ensures that the mattress is not over wet as well as reducing the drying time.
Deodorising and Neutralising
The mattress will be Ph balanced to maintain its soft fresh feel and reduce any chance of damage or sticky residue. To ensure your mattress is smelling clean and fresh you can choose from our wide range of deodorisers in which are now applied.

Our Upholstery Sanitiser is a must to kill any bacteria that may reside within your mattress. Our sanitiser will not only help you sleep better, but it will also leave you healthier. The sanitiser contains three antimicrobial agents that help in reducing and controlling the growth of various fungi and bacteria. This treatment also offers odour counteractants that assist in neutralising several types of unpleasant smells. If your lounge chair, sofa or couch have been affected by bacteria (perhaps from children, pets, vomit or water damage), cleaning the upholstery without the antimicrobial agents may reactivate the bacteria and have your upholstery smelling worse than before.
