Truma and Crime Cleaning

The S540 is a living record subject to change as more data opens up and as logical advancements happen. The S540 will be looked at, assessed, and approved through application in the field, and from that point, changed and accessed to the next level. This process and further expert and public reviews allow the industry to develop a body of science and achieve the overall IICRC goal of improving the conditions in which people live and work. Users of this document should stay updated and informed about new developments and implement changes on a case-by-case basis to remain compliant.

This standard describes the strategies to be followed and the precautions to be taken when performing injury and crime scene cleanup regardless of surface, item, or location. This Standard assumes that all scenes have been released by policing administrative organisations.

It is advisable for professionals to use professional judgement throughout every single task. However, the use of professional judgement is not a licence to deviate from this standard. Before deviating from the standard of care (e.g., “will” or “should”), the professional should document the circumstances that led to such a decision, inform the relevant stakeholders, and, without any undue delay, report the communication before proceeding.
